President Alvarado defends RECOPE monopoly

The port of Moín is still in a process of modernization and the first dock dukes of Alba was inaugurated (isolated structures that serve to give lateral support and mooring to the ships).

The new infrastructure will receive ships that transport hydrocarbons, which will speed up the importation of finished products such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel A-1 and bunker.

The work cost $112 million and was lead by the Mexican-Costa Rican consortium ICA-MECO.

The executive president of the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (RECOPE) said that the project will allow greater berthing capacity and will speed up the import logistics.

The project has been described as “innovative”; it is composed of eight dukes of Alba that allow to extend the length of berthing up to 200 meters, which is the extension of the breakwater.

President Carlos Alvarado defended the monopoly of the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery, arguing that this type of project should be part of the efficient transition for fuel management, and that, the hydrocarbon market should be maintained as monopoly so that the State can control the transition towards decarbonization.
