President asked two ministers about inaccuracies in speech at the Climate Summit

Last week, President Carlos Alvarado gave a speech to world leaders and the international community wich contained inaccuracies.

At a time when his government seeks to attack the dissemination of false and inaccurate information, the President demanded explanations from the Minister of Environment, Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, and the communication chief, Nancy Marín, for the mistakes contained in the message he gave at the Climate Action Summit.

The digital media Ojo al Clima said that two statements by the President that day were “not quite true.” The media refuted aspects about the size of the electric vehicle fleet in the country and the number of charging points for these cars in the national territory.

In his speech, Alvarado said that the electric vehicle fleet has grown by 500% in the country, which according to Ojo al Clima, is false. Data provided by Ojo al Clima indicate that the electric vehicle fleet went from 1,202 units in 2017 to 1,626 units in 2018 (an increase of 35%). If only cars are considered, the growth is 118% (143 to 312).

Similarly, Ojo al Clima questioned the information provided by Alvarado regarding the infrastructure for this type of automotive in the entire country. The media maintains that the recharge infrastructure still does not cover all 82 cantons in the country. In the whole province of Limón there are only three points.

Given these inconsistencies, Alvarado demanded explanations in order to give the correct information.

I use the data they give me regarding this. Here the fundamental thing is that this is a clear goal for the country,”

concluded the President.
