President defends himself against criticism over cement case

On Wednesday, President Luis Guillermo Solís assured he did not lie during his appearance before the legislators of the Commission investigating the loans granted by the Bank of Costa Rica to the importer of Chinese cement.

Solís guaranteed he said everything he knew to be true, as a response to the criticism he has received, mainly from the political sector that questioned his answers from last Monday.

I testified under oath and said what I know, and I think now legislators are the ones who have to solve this, but I have not lied,”

said Solís, who asked anyone with evidence that he committed perjury in his statements, to present them so that he can submit to the respective processes.

The president made the remarks after the meeting with the hierarchs of supreme powers, with the participation of the President of the Court, Carlos Chinchilla, the President of the Supreme Court of Elections, Luis Antonio Sobrado and the President of the Legislative Assembly, Gonzalo Ramírez.

The latter criticized the Executive Power, assuring that there has been a lack of clarity and strength in his statements about the way Juan Carlos Bolaños got $30 million in credits from the BCR to import Chinese cement, mainly after visiting the Presidential House seven times to meet with ministers and the president himself.

Ramírez also criticized his fellow legislators, saying there were many questions to be asked during Monday’s appearance at the Presidential House.
