Last week, the government called off the second reading of the animal welfare bill at a special session of the Legislature. Afterwards, legislator Otto Guevara sent the law to the Constitutional Court, so the Congress will have to wait for the resolution.
This situation caused some animalist groups to qualify the work of the Executive on this issue as treason, something that president Luis Guillermo Solís did not like.
How can anyone say that this government betrays the movement of animal advocates? How can they even suggest that we are withdrawing out support to this project?”
said the President, who feels it is disrespectful to think that way.
Luis Paulino Mora, deputy Minister of the Presidency, in charge of legislative affairs, announced that the priority focused on the Tax Fraud bill, the Corporations bill and the extraordinary Budget for 2016.
