On Tuesday morning, President Luis Guillermo Solís used Facebook to express his disagreement on the bill that aims to establish a single salary for the president, ministers, deputy ministers and other public administration officials.
The draft of the Costa Rican Public Employment Order Bill stipulates that the President would earn 7.3 million colones, instead of the 5 million colones he currently earns.
In the case of the vice presidents of the republic, they would go from making ¢3.3 million to ¢6.4 million. Ministers would earn ¢4.7 million rather than ¢2.5 million, while deputy ministers would reach ¢4 million.
It was not authorized by me, nor does it have my support, or the support of the Government. It is not something that I can conscientiously present to the Legislative Assembly,”
said the president, assuring that he never received any communication about that text.
I want to clearly disassociate myself from a text that was not consulted, nor has it been discussed by the government,”
added Solís.
According to the president, he is not in favor of increasing the salary to the President of the Republic, because this would bring economic consequences to the country.
