President will not interfere with legislator’s trip to Nicaragua

President Luis Guillermo Solís will not interfere whether the trip of a group of Costa Rican legislators to Nicaragua is convenient or not.

Solís said that the Foreign Ministry already expressed an opinion regarding the issue and that he, from the executive branch, cannot interfere in the decisions made in the Legislative Assembly.

The executive branch cannot give orders to the Legislature on where they go. It has never been like this,”said the Costa Rican president.

A group of 16 legislators, following Vice President of the Legislative Assembly, the libertarian José Alberto Alfaro, are planning a tour to the neighboring country from November 18th to 20th to meet with their Nicaraguan counterparts.

The Chancellor, however, believes this trip is not favorable, since relations are not fluid.

Solís, on the other hand, stressed that the announcement was made by the Chancellor and that legislators must assess well their participation in the foreign country.

On Sunday, Daniel Ortega was reelected president of that nation in a controversial election process.
