The National Agricultural and Livestock Alliance (ANA) presented a new draft law on the integrated management of water resources.
The initiative seeks to eliminate bureaucracy, reduce pipelines, as well as excessive spending and wrong administration in some of the institutions that have competence in the country’s water management.
The group, which represents more than 200,000 producers, incorporates in the new proposal relevant aspects presented in the Legislative Assembly in July last year.
Juan Rafael Lizano, president of the National Chamber of Agriculture and Agroindustry (CNAA), said that the approval of the new proposal will be fundamental for the defense of the preservation of farmers’ patrimony.
It will also help prevent the disappearance of farms of small and medium producers.
The text includes changes to the regulation of the protection areas and maintains those currently established by the Forestry Law.
In addition, they proposed that the Ministries of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) and Environment and Energy approve the general guidelines of the national water policy and the national water plan.
It does not incorporate the figure of the Hydrological Unit Councils included in previous texts.
