Project aims to detoxify the planet with sustainable oil

The oil burnt by vehicles is one of the most powerful poisons that threaten the planet. Once used, much of it ends up in rivers and seas.

For this reason, a small company called Metalub has been traveling the country for two years, collecting burnt oil and lubricants from fleets, trucks, tractors, buses and other vehicular companies, as well as mechanical and lubrication centers workshops, among others.

Once they collect the oil, they make environmentally sustainable products through a process of re-refined, according to Francis Vincent.

This process will take the used oil pollutants and preserve valuable virgin resources. Only one liter of re-refined engine oil produces the same amount of engine oil as 42 liters of crude oil.

Every two months, they manage to fill a 23 liter tank that is taken to the United States. The process takes place in a mother and then the result returns to the country under various types of oils and lubricants for cars, which now produce less carbon dioxide (CO2).

It was a difficult process, but from what we could gather, and the fact that we could mitigate tons of CO2 released into the atmosphere, it’s like half the Manuel Antonio National Park,”

said Vincent.

The work of 7 people in Costa Rica has been able to preserve more than 3,800 square meters of our planet.
