Project aims to improve education evaluation

Legislator Mario Redondo, from the Christian Democratic Alliance (CDA), presented a bill to strengthen the quality of Costa Rican education.

According to Redondo, the proposal seeks to ensure continuous evaluation of the design, organization and results of the educational system.

The initiative links the resources constitutionally allocated for state education to achieving quality results in the system.

Each student would have an electronic file containing information to meet their needs and improve planning.

The proposal also strengthens the role of the Higher Education Council as being responsible for defining educational policies and modernizing its composition.

It also creates the Institute for Evaluation of Educational Quality as a decentralized body responsible for developing and executing periodic evaluations of the educational system to determine compliance goals, weak areas and investment priorities.

Another proposal is to force university degrees to be accredited by the National Accreditation System of Higher Education (SINAES) and eliminate political interference in the appointment of Boards of Education and Administrative Boards of schools.
