On February 13th, Enrique Sanchez presented a bill to the legislative current so that criminal cases for sexual crimes prescribe 25 years after the victim turns 18.
The idea is to ensure that people who suffered this type of crime when they were minors have the necessary time to file the complaint and it does not prescribe. Currently the term for prescription is 10 years.
This progress was made in the Legal Affairs Committee, where it was unanimously voted in favor and now the report must be prepared so that it can be transferred to the Plenary as soon as possible.
The legislator of the Citizen Action Party (PAC) hopes that this final vote in the second reading will occur before September, so that the accusations against former priest Mauricio Víquez do not prescribe.
The Catholic Church expelled Víquez for life. The authorities are looking for him in Mexico, where he fled in January.
