Project to strengthen coffee production makes progress

March 22, 2018 by Staff News Writer

On Wednesday, the Committee on Agricultural Affairs of the Legislative Assembly supported a bill to strengthen the coffee production in the country.

It is an initiative promoted by the Executive Power, to create the National Coffee Sustainability Fund (Fonascafé). The project would contribute to maintain the sustainability of the sector, through a permanent program of financing directed with special emphasis to the small producer.

With the resources, projects would be carried out in the phases of renewal and maintenance of the coffee plantations, as well as for the acquisition of new technologies to increase the productivity and competitiveness of the plantations.

Coffee production in Costa Rica has an enormous economic, historical and social importance. That is why the State must ensure that our producers have access to financing tools that help them improve the yields of their coffee bushes,”

said the Citizen Action Party legislator, Marlene Madrigal.
