Prosecutor concludes investigation on air tragedy that killed 12

The Deputy Prosecutor’s Office of Nicoya confirmed that the investigation on the air crash that took the lives of 12 people on December 31st, 2017 in an area near the runway located in Corozalito de Nandayure, Guanacaste, has been completed.

As confirmed by the entity through an email sent on March 19th, they are currently refining the preparation of the final requirement of the file. That is, the final decision of whether to issue an accusation or a dismissal.

The prosecutor’s office reported last December that the criminal case had been ongoing without accused persons.

The plane crash occurred on December 31st, 2017, when a plane of the company Nature Air collapsed in the vicinity of the runway of Punta Islita. From that moment the criminal case was opened to determine possible responsibilities in the event.

As part of the investigations, reports made by the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) and the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) were incorporated into the file.

The authorities pointed to three hypotheses to explain the tragedy: the influence of strong winds, a human failure or a mechanical issue.
