Behind Dixie and Emilia there is “Protagonistas Adolescentes,” a youth program from San Carlos that goes beyond talking about contraception.
We work with young people aged 10 to 15 years old and we discuss several topics, including self-esteem, values, knowing our body, sexuality, contraception, responsible parenthood. We work with children and parents,
declared Emilia Bustamante, Social Worker from Ciudad Quesada Health Area.
Their workshops reach a population of 4,382 adolescents in public and private schools in Ciudad Quesada.
Their project hasexisted for 8 years and they have listed their greatest challenges:
-Working with teenagers with disabilities.
-Exclusive workshops for parents / guardians.
-Workshops for adolescents who are not part of the formal education system.
-Working with teen workers.
This is one of the projects that are part of the II Innovasalud Forum 2016. This forum will present several projects that have made a difference in the provision of services of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) throughout the country.
