Puma Energy will start a remediation plan

The company Puma Energy announced that it has started a remediation plan on Nicaragua Pacific coast, due to the explosion and fire ot two crude oil storage tanks.

2 storage tanks, owned by Puma Energy, with a capacity of 144,000 barrels each, and located in Puerto Sandino, burnt down for more than 3 days. The flames were controlled on Sunday.

Puma Energy has a workforce of over 150 people and divided into teams, they are dedicated to perform initial cleanings in the area,

said the firm.

The oil company also has specialized material to absorb waste and keep the oil spill within a controlled area.

The company is committed to implement environmental remediation, and use the resources necessary for that purpose,

added the firm.

Puma Energy has also started an investigation to determine the causes that led to the accident.

Centro Humboldt reported that 166 species of animals and 5 of trees were in danger due to the fire, which affected an area of 500 meters. Air pollution effects have not been studied.

Puma Energy is a subsidiary of Puma Energy International which was established in Puerto Rico in May 2011 after buying Capeco assets. It is a regional, business center for the American company.
