Partido Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC) proposed to reduce the tax that is intended to be charged to inactive corporations.
The legislators proposed, through an amendment to the bill, that the annual rate were reduced from ¢ 63,600, as was included in the initiative, to ¢ 42,420.
According to Gerardo Vargas Rojas, leader of the red-blue fraction, from the 559,506 companies registered in the National Registry, 405,156 (72%) are not profitable. However, the project aims to collect 15% of a base salary (¢ 63,600 per year).
The proposal also intends to raise the tax rate for active companies with high incomes.
PUSC legislators think that the current proposal, which sets rates between ¢ 63,600 and ¢ 212,000, is unfair.
