The Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) reported a quiet day and with little participation of voters in the plebiscite that was held this Sunday in Nosara de Nicoya. Nearly 41,000 voters were called to decide if Nosara becomes administratively independent from the Municipality of Nicoya and a District Municipal Council is created.
Héctor Fernández, director of the Electoral Registry, explained that they have no reports of serious incidents that have tarnished the voting. People from Guanacaste went to 89 voting tables, located in 69 polling stations
The polls closed at 5:00 p.m. After that, the first reports of the meetings began to be received, which would allow to know more about the participation. Nosara needs 15% of the votes, which are around 6,300, to achieve their goal.
The Municipal District Council may be created so that remote districts with difficult access can meet their social needs. The aim is that Nosara collects and administers its own revenues by directly charging municipal taxes and fines.
