Rains and winds saved Ticos from Sahara’s dust

Although it was expected that this week the dust from the Sahara would return to Costa Rica, the weather conditions did helped the Costa Rican population at least for this week.

Daniel Poleo, meteorologist at the National Meteorological Institute (IMN), explained that due to the direction of the winds, the dust is heading further north. Costa Rica will not be directly affected. Although at least for this week the dust will not affect the country, it is normal that these particles reach Costa Rica between June and August.

Luis Ugalde, pulmonologist at the Clínica Bíblica, explained that being a periodical situation, it is important that people and especially some population groups are attentive to information. The specialist added that unless the population is aware of the information, there is no specific test that can indicate if what they have is caused by the dust specifically.
