The Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE) hopes to downsize the use of energy in the bunker and asphalt storage process with the automatic steam heating system in the Moín Plant.
The project was completed in August 2016 and it cost $ 385,000.
The new system allows reducing the consumption of steam and fuels in this industrial activity; which in turn has a favorable impact on the costs of storage processes and benefits to the environment, because it reduces carbon emissions, by burning less bunker in steam production.
With the installation of this system the temperature maintained by each tank is better controlled, heating it to required temperatures without exceeding, thus facilitating the reduction of fuel use, in addition to a greater uniformity of the temperature of the tanks that are delivered to sales.
A reduction of only 3 °C in the annual average could mean savings of about $500 per day. The system in turn allows measuring the steam flows as well as their accounting in critical points of consumption.
