Recope requested increases in gas and diesel prices

By the third time in four months, the “Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo” (Recope) requested another hike in fuel prices that, if approved, will take effect in June. The increases could be of ¢17 and ¢16 per liter in super and regular gas, respectively. It also requested adding ¢33 per liter of diesel.

Recope blamed increases on variations of international prices of oil byproducts, according to what it says in its written request to the “Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos” (Aresep).

Thus, the litter of super gas will go up to ¢519 from current ¢ 502. The regular kind will come up from ¢483 to ¢499 per liter. The diesel will rise from ¢348 to ¢381.

At the new rates filling a 45-liter tank with regular gas will rise from ¢21.735 to ¢22.455. By filling it with super gas, the cost will come up from ¢22.590 to ¢23.355.

The bill for filling a 45-liter tank with diesel will go up to ¢17.145 from ¢15.660.

According to the law procedures, Aresep has one month to pronounce about the company’s request.

Within this lapse a public consult on the new tariffs is open. If hikes get approval will be charged the following day after being published on “La Gaceta”. This might happen by the second half of June.
