While some Red Cross members were saving a 25-year-old patient’s life in Tirrases of Curridabat, thieves took the opportunity to steal instruments from the ambulance.
The unfortunate incident occurred between Friday night and early Saturday. According to the official report, criminals took the medical equipment and rescuers’ personal belongings.
It is not the first time that a case like this takes place. However, it’s unfortunate that they have stolen essential items to work, such as equipment to measure vital signs, and other tools that were necessary at that moment.
Apparently, the theft occurred when Red Cross members got out of the unit to make an assessment of the site and the patient. When they went back to the ambulance to look for their equipment, they realized that it wasn’t there.
Despite not having the tools for a better approach, rescuers managed to take the patient to the nearest medical center.
A portion of the stolen equipment was institutional, but most of it belonged to the rescuer who attended the emergency.
The Red Cross announced that it will take action when they must deal with emergencies in conflict areas in the Central Valley, in order not to put at risk the resources and the staff.
