The Costa Rican Red Cross (CRC) received more than 822 million colones in donations for the care of victims of Hurricane Otto, which hit the country in late November.
Economic donations were made through the official accounts of the institution, both in dollars and colones.
Glauco Quesada, president of the Red Cross, thanked Costa Ricans for trusting in the institution and helping 10,831 people directly affected by the hurricane.
The money received in the donations will be transferred to a special account of the National Emergency Fund from the National Emergency Commission (CNE), in compliance with the provisions of the law,”
said the institution.
Since the emergency started, the institution has also distributed more than 30,000 food and hygiene kits.
CRC explained that during this emergency, more than 1,500 Red Cross workers were performing their duty throughout the country daily.
