Reform would give more money to elderly care

A legal reform aims to increase the amount of resources that the Fund for Social Development and Family Allowances (FODESAF) allocates to the National Council of the Elderly Person (CONAPAM) and to the care of people with disabilities.

The project would modify the Law of Social Development and Family Allowances to change the percentages of resources allocated.

According to the proposal, the resources destined to the care of people with disabilities interned in public or private, day and permanent centers would be increased from 0.25% to 0.50%.

These funds will be used to cover the costs of the payroll of the specialized personnel in charge of assisting these people.

Private centers must verify their suitability before the Ministry of Health and must have an updated permit of social welfare granted by the Joint Institute of Social Assistance (IMAS).

CONAPAM would receive an increase from 2% to 5% for all annual revenue, ordinary and extraordinary, perceived by FODESAF.

According to the project, although the elderly have resources from a number of state institutions, their needs are large.

Information provided by FODESAF indicates that in 2016, ¢11,182.9 million was budgeted for CONAPAM.
