Residents from Alajuela will have Palliative Care Center

Very soon the residents of San Rafael Alajuela will have a Palliative Care Center.

The foundation stone of the first stage of construction was laid this week, aiming to improve the quality of life of people with chronic and terminal diseases.

It is expected that once the work is completed, this center will be able to assist 200 people on an outpatient basis, as it will have four doctors’ offices, a psychology and social work module, a waiting and meeting room, an administrative area, a cellar and a parking lot.

The investment in this building is around ¢ 100 million, 30% of which were raised through various activities and municipal contributions.

The Association of Palliative Care of San Rafael obtained the grant of the lot, the municipal funds, the studies of soil and constructive plans. Currently, patients from the community of San Rafael de Alajuela have had to go to other palliative care centers in more remote communities such as Belén and Alajuela.

It is estimated that the first stage will be ready by August this year. Once completed, the second stage will begin, but the progress will depend on the collection of funds for the construction and equipment of the center.
