The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) reported that there were two small eruptions in Rincón de la Vieja Volcano on Tuesday afternoon. One occurred at 5:52 p.m. and the largest at 5:54 p.m.
According to Javier Pacheco, expert of the OVSICORI, the ash column rose 1000 meters above the crater and 2916 meters above sea level.
The activity lasted two minutes. However, there was no report of ash fall nor did it smell like sulfur. So far, said the entity, it has not been possible to define the exact direction of the wind.
