Wednesday night’s riots in Limón accounted for serious damage in shops, communications infrastructure, and also wounded officers of the Public Force.
Daniel Calderón, General Director of the Public Force, said that at least 10 officers were found with different injuries due to the operations to restore public order in the province.
Among the damages caused, there were eight stores with damages to the infrastructure and a burnt van and tower of the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) in the sector of Limón 2000.
In a preventive action, the officers of the Public Force boarded a bus with passengers that was apparently going to be the target of vandalism actions. Given the timely police action, several subjects threw a homemade Molotov-type bomb against a van that was burned.
In addition, the delegation of the Public Force located in Cieneguita suffered damages due to another Molotov bomb that was launched by people who have not yet been identified.
As a result of these incidents, a man surnamed Cantillano was arrested for simple robbery, in the central canton of Limón. Another subject, surnamed Paizano, was apprehended in the Cieneguita sector for reckless driving.
