Elena Udrea, the Romanian Minister of Tourism who had an international arrest warrant, had a baby in the country. The girl is now 10 months old and could be an impediment to her mother’s extradition.
Udrea is required by the authorities of her country for the alleged crimes of bribery and abuse of power. In addition, the office of Interpol Costa Rica arrested another Romanian, identified as Alina Bica, for the alleged crime of instigation.
Gustavo Chinchilla, Director of the Interpol Office, said that the foreigners arrived in the country in February 2018. They rented properties in Curridabat, Escazú, and La Sabana. He ruled that anyone has made any real estate investment.
Chinchilla said that Udrea was Minister of Development and Tourism in Romania and that Bica was the Director of Organized Crime.
They are both detained in Vilma Curlins Comprehensive Care Center. The Criminal Court issued two months of preventive custody.
The Interpol Director said that the fact that Udrea had had a daughter in the country, at the moment would not be an impediment to her extradition, since the father is not Costa Rican.
