San Carlos road hasn’t been built

San Carlos road has been under construction for more than 40 years and, for some reason, it hasn’t become a reality.

The so-called northern point (Florence-Ciudad Quesada) is paralyzed since January, due to the lack of funds.

Minister of Public Works and Transport Carlos Villalta confessed that they plan to reactivate the work in April. However, he said that it will depend on a series of meetings with representatives of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which financed part of that stretch.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) expects to complete the 24-million-dollar-addendum paperworks with funds from the National Road Council (CONAVI) to boost works by the Ceinsa-Tragsatec Spanish consortium.

Once the appointment is made between authorities from the MOPT and the IDB, they plan to study the deadlines, reactivate jobs and even negotiate downward contracts. However, April is just around the corner and the residents of the area are worried.

Villalta reiterated that, unless something extraordinary occurred, this government will deliver the northern point before May 8th, 2018.
