Security received 250 daily calls for domestic violence in 2016

Given the rise of violence in the country in recent years, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) presented a proposal to contain it.

The initiative includes public and private institutions and municipalities in order to develop campaigns targeted to young people.

According to the MSP, in 2016 they received 250 daily calls for cases of domestic violence.

They also alerted about 85 cases of abused children. Of these, 50% were for sexual assault.

Last year the Public Force reported 1,130 cases of people wounded with weapons, 798 with firearms and 322 with knives.

One of the issues that has worried us most is that of femicides. In 2015, 39 women died and in 2016 they were 63,”

said Juan José Andrade, director of Public Force and deputy minister.

María Fullmen Salazar, Deputy Minister of Security, said that the key to promote citizen security could be in the municipalities.
