For several months, the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) has made efforts to strengthen the shelter and promote development in the National San Lucas Island Wildlife Refuge.
San Lucas houses one of the greatest jewels in historical and cultural wealth of the country, so the goal is using this to boost the economy of the region.

said Grettel Vega Arce, Executive Director of SINAC.
The interest of all the institutions involved, as well as the tourism sector, is that this island becomes the motor of tourism development of the Central Canton of Puntarenas, so in a short and medium term a series of projects will be executed, such as the restoration of the historic path to Cocos beach, the construction of a battery of sanitary services and a collection center for the classification and temporary storage of waste that is collected on the beaches.
Similarly, in order to improve the quality of services and the experience for visitors, it is intended to offer guided tours, souvenirs and refreshments. The project also includes adequate spaces for the park rangers, through the repair and conditioning of the house, which was dismantled and destroyed by criminals months ago.
The works consist of the installation of the roof, thermal insulation, ceiling, doors, keys, paint, solar panels, telephone service, internet, electrical installation, water service, household, and perimeter closure of the area, for the safety of the officials.
