Sintrajap asks administrative court for injunction against road project

February 20, 2014 by Staff News Writer

Japdeva Workers Union (Sintrajap) has filed a case with an Administrative Court, requesting an injunction against the proposed Route 257, which would connect the community of Sandoval with Route 32. The road is necessary for the development of the Moin Container Terminal (TCM), by the private company APM Terminals.

The union says that an environmental study should be done because the road would impact a wetland in the area. President Laura Chinchilla, declared the road to be in the national interest, which eliminated the need for environmental reviews.

Construction of 2 kilometer road is expected to come at a cost of ¢3.359 billion ($6.48 million) and must be completed before APM terminals can begin work on the $1 billion port.
