Despite being a small business, Ovo Montessori kindergarten in Escazú recently achieved a certification from the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), as a carbon neutral organization, which has motivated other schools to ask kindergarten’s help to achieve this goal.
Small changes and a lot of organization are part of the modifications made in this educational center, explained Principal Jessica Villalta. For example, changes include placing energy-efficient light bulbs, establishing “carpooling” schedules among the employees and installing filtration and rainwater collection systems.
Villalta stated that when people want to contribute with the environment, they can do it and she urged other schools to start contributing through small changes such as turning the faucets off, using recyclable materials, turning lights off when they are not in use and using public transportation.
