The rate increase announced by Colegio de Médicos de Costa Rica, would have an impact not only on users of private medical services, but also on the amounts paid by Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social to purchase external medical services.
“This entity will also be affected because, many times, it has to buy external medical services, since it cannot meet every policyholder’s needs and expectations”
, explained legislator Otto Guevara.
Guevara also fears the rate increase will lead many middle-class Costa Ricans to stop using private medical care, which translates in a rising demand for the services provided by CCSS. As a result, the quality of the service will decrease.
