Solar energy businessmen denounce obstacles to be exonerated from VAT

The Costa Rican Solar Energy Association (Acesolar) denounced that the Ministry of Finance is not complying with the opinion of the Attorney General’s Office on the validity of incentives for this sector and also exonerate them from VAT.

The Attorney General’s Office clarified that the Law on Strengthening Public Finances does not mean a tacit repeal of the exemptions granted through other laws and according to Acesolar, these provisions are not being respected.

The new legislation exonerates the self-consumption of electrical energy generated through the use of solar panels.

In recent weeks, the beneficiaries of this Law have encountered problems in applying the VAT exemption, because the officials of the Ministry of Finance argue that the codes required to enforce the rights granted by the law are not yet enabled, denounced the Association.

The beneficiaries are being forced to pay these taxes to download their merchandise and to be able to fulfill the commitments acquired with their consuming clients.
