According to President Luis Guillermo Solís, immigrants should avoid Costa Rica because of its limited resources and inadequate conditions to take care of thousands of people.
So far, Costa Rica has helped immigrants in the northern border with Nicaragua using the resources from the National Emergency Commission (CNE) and the Red Cross, which make sure they are in appropriate shelters, with food and basic sanitation conditions.
However, despite considering that there is an obligation to provide humanitarian assistance, the president also sees an increase in migration. Therefore, he rules out the possibility of enabling more refugee centers in Costa Rica.
