Solís will keep waiting for Trump’s decisions

President Luis Guillermo Solís reiterated his congratulations to Donald Trump for his victory in the presidential elections and declined to render its opinion on what might come with the new government.

Solís said that at the moment we must be cautious because you cannot assume that the promises made in campaign will be kept.

One cannot assume that everything said in the campaign, which was polarized and had characteristics that the history of that country had never seen, will necessarily become the public policy adopted by the new administration,”

said the president.

Migrations, deportations and renegotiating free trade agreements were subjects addressed by Trump during his campaign. This situation creates uncertainty regarding what might happen with the Latino community in the United States as well as the economy, not only in Costa Rica, but throughout Central America.

We have to be careful and allow the new administration to announce what will be the policy in a number of delicate issues,”

said Solís.

Costa Rica’s attitude will be prudent and quiet until we get to know what Donald Trump will do from the US presidential chair.
