The low-cost US airline Spirit will fly between the city of Orlando, Florida, and Juan Santamaría International Airport. The route will be open from October 5th.
The Presidency of the Republic informed that this route will operate four times a week and that from November 8th the frequency will be daily. The Government did not specify which will be the initial four days of the flights or the type of aircraft that the company will use.
The prices of the tickets will be around $350 round trip, depending on the date. Spirit has 10 years in the national market and opened its first commercial headquarters in Costa Rica last September.
According to data from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), the US market is the main source of tourists in Costa Rica with almost 1.3 million. It represents 40% of the annual visitors.
This is the third announcement of expansions of air operations to Costa Rica this month. On June 7th, Aeroméxico informed that it will start flying from November between Mexico City and Daniel Oduber airport in Liberia. On June 12th, the Canadian airline Sunwing announced a service from Vancouver to this same terminal in Guanacaste.
