Strike in the Ministry of Justice and Peace was declared illegal

On Thursday, the Labor Court of the Second Judicial Circuit determined that the strike called in the Ministry of Justice and Peace was illegal. The movement in this ministry was promoted by the National Association of Public and Private Employees (ANEP).

According to Judge Mónica Mora Vilchez, the reason behind the strike was putting pressure on the State and not a labor issue linked to the employment relationships of the strikers, specifically the defense and promotion of their economic and social interests, as established by the Labor Code.

Additionally, they didn’t prove they had exhausted the previous negotiation or conciliation strategies required by law.

Previously, the Courts declared the illegality of the protest in the National Production Council (CNP), Ministry of Housing and Human Settlements, National Emergency Commission, Central Bank, Social Protection Board, Port Administration Board of the Atlantic Coast (Japdeva ), Mixed Institute of Social Action (IMAS), Correos de Costa Rica, Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (Recope), Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), National Radio and Television System (Sinart), National Board of Children (PANI), Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), the National Insurance Institute (INS), the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE), the National Apprenticeship Institute, the Ministry of Public Education and Racsa.
