Strikers will demonstrate in front of the Supreme Court of Justice

The unions that maintain their strike call will demonstrate on Monday, October 8th, at Plaza de la Justicia, located in the Supreme Court of Justice, in downtown San José. This Monday is the 29th day of the strike against the tax reform.

The concentration will start at 9:00 a.m. according to the announcements made in social networks. The National Association of Public and Private Employees (ANEP), the Association of Teachers (APSE) and the National Association of Educators (ANDE) published their participation in the demonstration on Monday.

In addition, they report that there will be strike movements in some regions of the country, without specifying where.

On the other hand, this Monday hospitals, clinics and Basic Health Care Teams (EBAIS) are expected to resume normal activities, because two unions in the health sector and the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) signed an agreement to depose the movement on Friday. Now, the strike will not have the participation of the National Union of Employees of the Fund and Social Security (UNDECA) and the National Union of Nursing (SINAE).

The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Labor, after these two unions were on strike for 26 days. The most up-to-date register of the CCSS indicates that during those 26 days of the strike against the tax reform more than 111 thousand appointments in the outpatient clinic were suspended and about 3,500 surgeries were canceled.

From this Sunday Albino Vargas, general secretary of the Anep, informed that his union maintains the strike call. In addition, he called on the directors to meet on an emergency Advisory Council next Wednesday at 8:00 am in the auditorium of the Episcopal Conference.
