Kenneth Sánchez, president of the High School Student Movement (Medse) said that, despite the end of the protests, they believe that what has been achieved with the demonstrations benefits the students.
Medse announced on Tuesday that they would pause the movements because they would begin a dialogue with government authorities.
The protests began the last week of June and lasted until Monday, when the Ministry of Public Education (MEP) reported 12 closed schools. For this Tuesday the situation came to an end after the National Children’s Board (PANI), the Public Force and the MEP carried out an operation to open those schools in which students refused to open the gates.
“We think we won a lot because, first of all, we are not going to meet with the minister but with the president and he is the immediate boss of Mrs. Guiselle. We also won that as of August 1st, the Executive branch defines the Legislative agenda and there we can introduce Dual Education,”
said Sánchez.
The student leader also indicated that among the agreements defined on Tuesday they will ask the Government not to retaliate against the students who participated in the demonstrations.
The MEP will continue with the dialogue sessions in the 27 Regional Directorates to avoid misinformation of the student population.
