A group of students was responsible for the spill of mercury that caused an emergency on Monday night in Isla Chira, located in the Pacific.
In the Facebook profile of Liceo Chira, it was confirmed that some of them took the dangerous metal home. They were asked not to touch it, not to share it with other people, to keep it away, not to throw it into the environment.
On Monday night it was reported that about 10 people had symptoms of mercury poisoning, after the attention, a 14-year-old minor was transferred during the early morning to the Monseñor Sanabria Hospital in Puntarenas. He had irritation in the eyes, nausea and a headache.
Although nobody knows why the educational center had this metal, the officials appeal to the honesty of their students, to avoid health or environmental complications.
These are the requests that the school authorities made to the students:
Separate the clothes that were in contact with the metal
Keep it isolated and away from other garments
Do not get closer to contaminated clothing, or items
At this time, a team of firefighters is in the area doing decontamination work. Likewise, visits will be made to the houses for the corresponding treatment.
Boys, put aside fears of reprimands, it is necessary for those who have this metal, to be sincere to avoid harm to their health and the people who live with you, especially children, who are the most vulnerable. If someone threw mercury into the environment, we require you to inform us immediately so that specialists can pick it up in the contaminated area,”
says the publication on Facebook.
