Students in private schools and whose schools are located in a district with a high development rate have a better performance in the PISA tests.
The Ministry of Public Education (MEP) released the results of a stydt on the factors influencing test results. It aims to analyze young people’s competence in the education system. One of its objectives is to collect information about the quality of the system.
To do this, it evaluates competences in three areas: Reading, Mathematics and Science, and the evaluation is done to 15-year-old students.
The results
Thanks to the results, the MEP will be able to study the factors that have a negative or positive influence in the students’ performance.
Who have good grades?
– Students who attend a higher year.
-Students who haven’t repeated any grade.
-Students who show greater empathy toward others.
-Students who show greater interest of the sciences.
-If it’s a man.
-If students attend a private school.
-Students from private school located in a district with a high Development Index.
Who have bad grades?
-Students who have repeated grades or years at school.
-Students who show less empathy toward others.
-Students who show less interest in science.
-Students who prefer to work as a team.
-Female students.
Jorge Vargas, a researcher from the State of the Nation, commented that there are some points that draw their attention, as they help to predict student scores:
-Gender Gap in Mathematics and Science.
-Difference in private and public schools, but also among public schools.
