Students majoring in Ecological Tourism in Grecia’s Campus of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), seek various proposals to promote the local and sustainable development of Alajuela.
One of the initiatives is safeguarding the historical cultural and hydric heritage of the province, until the creation of new ecotourism routes. The students found conservation and sustainability practices with the aim of contributing to the development and strengthening of solidarity economies in the communities.
Each of the tourism projects seeks to take advantage of the area’s natural resources and cultural corners. One of them proposes the creation of a “coffee tour” for tourism development in the El Diamante de Coopeatenas, and another proposed the the development of a community agro-tourism in the area of Nueva Cinchona.
In order to elaborate each proposal, the students listened to the opinion of the population and took into account the capacities of entrepreneurs and the management of the local governments.
