Minister of Communications Mauricio Herrera announced that from today police surveillance will increase in the southern border to prevent the massive influx of immigrants.
In addition, on those who don’t have regular immigration status will be deported. Moreover, the government will strengthen health system for those immigrants who have documents issued by immigration authorities.
Immigrants are Asians and Africans. Some of them claim to be from “an African country” but they don’t mention its name.
To date, there are about 1500 people located in 4 authorized centers in Paso Canoas, Peñas Blancas, Las Vueltas and in the center of Buenos Aires. There is also an unauthorized center in Peñas Blancas. It is called Deldu. There are 1,100 immigrants.
Ministry of Health, Municipalities, the National Emergency Commission and Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) are working together to protect immigrants’ human rights.
