SUTEL seeks to ensure the rights of Internet users

The report by the OpenSignal firm reveals that in Costa Rica there is excellent access to the Internet, but the poor speed.

This company was hired by the Superintendency of Telecommunications (SUTEL) to obtain 2 quarterly reports with the results of mobile Internet service quality in the country.

The report

was done in compliance with the obligation of the SUTEL to ensure the rights of users and our power to verify compliance with the quality conditions offered by operators,”

said Glenn Fallas, Quality Director at Sutel.

This report states that 3G and 4G speeds are much slower than world averages.

According to Fallas, they believed it was appropriate to hire a neutral third party to assess the quality of the service throug an application on mobile users, regardless of the analysis made by the Superintendency.

The entity admitted that the radio spectrum is one of the elements necessary to improve and increase the quality of the networks of the operating companies.

That is why SUTEL is currently in the process of analyzing the requirements for 70 MHz of spectrum, a radio resource that would provide the opportunity for operators to expand the capacity of their networks.

Edwin Estrada, vice minister of Telecommunications, said that the issue of Internet speed is the second part of a work that began with the opening of the market in 2011.
