The Union of Taxicabs informed that they called an indefinite strike, in protest to the bill that seeks to legalize the Uber collaborative transport platform.
The deadline for the Ministry of Public Works Transportation (MOPT) to present the bill that would regulate these services is today.
Gilbert Ureña, leader of the taxi drivers, said that they had a meeting with Rodolfo Méndez Mata, Minister of Transport, on Monday, in order to read the draft Law, which was not presented to them.
We came with the hope that we would read the public transport improvement project and the platforms. We understand that there are instructions from the Presidential House to not present the project that goes against us and practically takes us out of public transport. It’ll go to the Legislative Assembly without consent, approval or discussion with us,”
said Ureña.
According to unionist, the strike will start at 4:00 am and they will be setting the date in the next 48 hours if Méndez Mata maintains the position of not showing them the project.
