Taxi drivers want to sue Finance Minister Rocío Aguilar before the Attorney General’s Office because,
by omission, [there’s] complicity [from the Minister] in Uber’s tax evasion and currency outflows without control.”
Gilberth Ureña, leader of the union of taxi drivers, indicated they gave a letter to Aguilar on July 23rd when they held a meeting, where they reiterated the complaints presented in the previous administration, therefore, they are waiting for a response from the hierarch within 15 days.
It is very easy, coming to a country, being a pirate, and taking the money out of the country without any control. We are talking about billions, and the Treasury does nothing,”
said Ureña.
Minister, you are allowing the abuse and violation of the Costa Rican legal system, and in the case that concerns us with your authority, the possible tax evasion while the Tax Administration does absolutely nothing,”
says the letter.
According to the taxi drivers, the Treasury is not collecting ₡ 93,600,000,000.00 due to the non-report of the income tax that corresponds to 30% of the profits by the company, without adding the money from the drivers of the platform.
The leader of the union assures that they had already filed a complaint with the General Prosecutor’s Office against former Minister Helios Fallas for alleged breach of duties in the public service and possible malfeasance for complacency, tolerance, inaction, and even complicity by omission.
The union has insisted that technological platforms should not have authorization to provide public transport service, and they have requested Uber to be blocked and banned in the country, without success.
