Taxi drivers will collaborate to draft law to regulate Uber

Next week, the Joint Commission of Taxpayers and the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) will start the draft for the final version of the proposed law to regulate public transport services provided by taxi drivers, Uber, and other collaborative platforms.

As explained by Rubén Vargas, general secretary of the Union of Costa Rican Taxi Drivers (UTC), six union representatives will review the MOPT initiative and work on it.

Vargas said they don’t want Uber to have a law “to fit their needs,” so they’ll make sue this service has the same rates as the ones for red taxi drivers and that “pirate” drivers are identified as service providers.

Vargas reiterated that, if these and other conditions are not met, they will maintain their position of “removing” the technology platforms from the country.
