TEC becomes plastic free

The Costa Rican Technological Institute (TEC) declared itself free of single use plastic, as confirmed by the Federation of students of the entity.

The Institutional Council approved the final proposal that declares the TEC as plastic-free institution, which was promoted by students.

As a university we take a firm step in a significant reduction of solid waste, towards carbon neutrality and in the path of greater sustainability. We are proud because we are the first Costa Rican University and perhaps the region, to achieve this declaration and prohibition,”

said Henry Alfaro, from the Federation of Students.

Alfaro stressed that the regulations will apply in all venues. He also explained that with the agreement plastic can no longer be marketed or used by instances of the TEC, whether internal or external.

The university authorities designed a plan of action – in the hands of the environmental management unit- with the guidelines, a regulation, a list of prohibited articles, among others.
