TECHO Foundation: 10 years and thousands of beneficiaries

For 10 years Costa Rican TECHO Foundation has been providing options for temporary housing to people in vulnerable areas. This year it is celebrating its anniversary as well as the thousands of lives that they have improved. It all started in 2006 at the University of Costa Rica (UCR) where Nicolás Campos started talking to young people about this project, which began in Chile.

Anyone can help,

was Campos’ slogan.

More than 33 thousand people have volunteered to help. Some of them are permanent (approximately 150 volunteers) and others help by raising money and other activities. They have built 1,800 temporary houses across the country (In each lives at least 5 people), and more than 200 children receive support in order to improve their school performance.

They have collected near half million dollars (approximately 800 million colones).

The work will continue, and now they are not working just in roofs: they are also supporting education, entrepreneurship and work.
