Term to analyze project on strikes was extended

The Commission in charge of the bill that seeks to provide legal security on strikes, will have one more month to discuss the initiative, after the approval of a motion that proposed a four-month deadline to complete all the required procedure in the legislative forum.

The legislators of the Commission assured that this period ends on April 20th, but the Legislative Assembly will be in recess from the 11th to the 19th, as part of Holy Week.

However, José María Villalta, a member of the Frente Amplio who is part of the forum, assured that since January 2019, the Technical Services Department revealed that the deadline expires on May 7th.

The Commission has made 26 appearances, 248 formal consultations and 69 hours of session.

The draft law seeks that, when a strike is declared illegal, a retrospective recession is made to the participants. In addition, it aims to dissolve unions when it is proven that their leaders promote blockades.

The initiative was presented by the liberationist Carlos Ricardo Benavides, after the strike last year that lasted three months.
